1. About Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary

The national park is also the house of many different kinds of turtles which are available in 7 species. 2. Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary History
With the rich history of more than 250 years, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is christened after the Keoladeo temple that lies in its boundaries. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Bharatpur National Park was once used to serve as the hunting spot for the kings of Bharatpur in 1850. The hunting activities run till pre independence time. Later in 1982, Government of India completely banned all the activities of hunting and killing and declared as the world heritage site in December in 1985. Due to the presence of dense forest the park is often called as the Ghana National Park as Ghana means “dense”.
